Global News Christian Views: North Carolina FEMA Response
When former narcotics unit head and certified pilot Jordan Sedum attempted to help rescue stranded residents during severe flooding in Banner Elk, North Carolina, he encountered troubling resistance from authorities. Despite coordinating with local law enforcement, fire departments, and the FAA to rescue several people, his efforts were ultimately shut down by a local fire chief. Even when Sedum's own son remained stranded on a mountainside with a victim, authorities threatened arrest if he attempted further rescues.
This isn't an isolated incident. Reports are emerging across the Southeast of authorities blocking volunteer assistance efforts, including restaurants being shut down for trying to provide free meals. The situation is further complicated by claims of FEMA only providing $750 per person in aid due to resource allocation toward illegal immigrants.
Israel Under Attack
Israel currently faces attacks from seven different fronts, mirroring the people groups mentioned in Psalm 83. Netanyahu recently addressed French President Macron's call for an arms embargo, stating: "Israel is defending itself against the enemies of civilization." He detailed Israel's battles against Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen, Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria, terrorists in Judea and Samaria, and direct attacks from Iran.
Recent developments include:
- Complete evacuation of Northern Gaza
- Southern Lebanon evacuation
- Lebanon under total blockade
- Iranian oil tankers evacuating hubs
- Iranian cargo planes blocked from Lebanon/Syria
- Elimination of key Hamas and Hezbollah leadership
Salvage by God Deep Dive: Psalm 27:13-14
"I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!"
This passage reminds us that regardless of global circumstances - whether Israel is under attack or America is struggling - we can wait on the Lord with courage, knowing we will see His goodness. While this may not necessarily be in current earthly circumstances, we have the promise of eternal life where we will absolutely experience His goodness.
Right On or Way Off?
- "Hate divides, love unites" WAY OFF! While this seems true superficially, you cannot have love without hate. The depth to which you love something determines how strongly you'll hate what threatens it. Both love and hate can either unite or divide people.
- "The church does not determine what the Bible teaches" RIGHT ON! As Spurgeon noted, the Bible determines what the church must teach, not vice versa. The church is entrusted with teaching truth but doesn't determine the truth itself.
- "We serve the church because the church is the hope of the world" WAY OFF! Jesus Christ alone is the hope of the world. While the church is His body and must reflect His light, we must never confuse the vessel with the source. The church's role is to point to Christ, not replace Him.
Warning About Heresy
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movement presents a serious concern for modern Christianity. This movement claims to restore apostolic authority and prophetic gifts, attempting to place all churches under new "apostles" and "prophets." Remember that there are no new apostles - the biblical requirement was walking with Christ personally. Be wary of those claiming new revelations or selling spiritual authority. The true miracle remains the Word of God transforming hearts from stone to flesh.
