Gramster Rant: Finding Peace in Extreme Weather
What's on everyone's mind today? The weather, of course. While some people really hate the cold and others struggle with heat, I'm reminded of wisdom from my dear old dad, Dicky Jack. He used to tell me, "Emily, there's no such thing as good days or bad days - there's just days, and you decide what you're going to do with them."
Growing up as what my kids call "the polar bear," I've always loved snow and cold. The heat, however, would literally make me nauseated. But my dad's perspective on weather challenges was profound. He explained how even drought serves a purpose - keeping soil fungi, bacteria, and insects in balance so things can grow properly.
God is truly in control of the weather, using it to maintain nature's delicate balance. While we should absolutely pray for those who must work in dangerous conditions - farmers in winter, construction workers in summer, truckers year-round - we can trust His purpose behind every temperature swing.
As Job 36:26-28 reminds us: "God is truly awesome beyond what we can know, the number of his years is unknowable. He draws up drops of water, distilling it to rain and mist, and when the clouds pour down, they drop their rain on all of humanity."
Here's a practical tip: When summer's heat becomes overwhelming, try turning up the AC a degree and putting on Christmas music. In bitter cold, brew something warm and watch Lord of the Rings' Mount Doom scenes. Small psychological tricks can help us cope while remembering God remains in control.
Major Announcement: Teaching Ministry Rebranding
After a decade of ministry under the Bible Idiots brand, merging stand-up comedy with Bible apologetics, we're announcing an important change. While the original concept successfully reached many people by asking "Are we idiots for believing the Bible, or would we be idiots not to?" about 60% of potential audiences were put off by the name alone.
Through prayer and counsel, it became clear that a rebranding was needed. The new name - Salvaged by God - better reflects both the teaching mission and personal testimony. As someone plucked from the salvage pile and made useful to the Lord, this name captures the transformative power of Christ while remaining accessible to all audiences.
The Bible Idiots movie will remain under its original name, but future teaching content, sermons, and Bible studies will be released under Salvaged by God. This change allows for continued growth while maintaining the authentic, uncompromising approach to sharing God's Word.
Right On or Way Off?
"When you see teens doing donuts in an empty parking lot, let them - there's no better way to learn how to control and correct a car sliding in ice and snow than to practice sliding in ice and snow." RIGHT ON! Empty parking lots provide crucial space for developing winter driving skills safely.
"10 below is better than 114 above." RIGHT ON! While both extremes present challenges, you can always add layers for cold but can only remove so much for heat.
"If your beliefs and actions make perfect sense to a watching world, they may not originate from God." WAY OFF! While spiritual things often seem foolish to non-believers, many godly principles work universally because they reflect the Creator's design. Natural revelation demonstrates God's truth even to unbelievers.
