The Call to Divine Purpose
In God's sovereign plan, each person is placed in their specific time and place for a greater purpose. Rather than trying to fit Jesus into our pre-existing life plans, we are called to fully surrender our lives to His leading. Over 150 years ago, Henry Varley noted that "the world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him." This challenge inspired D.L. Moody to dedicate himself completely to God's will, ultimately reaching over 100 million people with the Gospel message.
Understanding True Victory
The fundamental purpose for believers is seeing people saved from their sins and showing Christ as the reason for transformed lives. Life ultimately comes down to two elements: whether one's name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life or not. Once saved, believers develop an unquenchable yearning for God's purpose, though this often leads to spiritual warfare.
When pursuing God's calling, opposition is guaranteed. As 2 Timothy 3:12-14 warns, "All who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived." Yet believers are called to continue steadfast in what they have learned and firmly believed.
Four Keys to Being Used by God
1. God Uses Common People
The Lord consistently chooses ordinary individuals to accomplish His purposes. As 1 Corinthians 1:27 states, "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong." What these regular people have in common is their obedience to God, even in mundane tasks.
2. God Uses Relational People
Those used by God maintain an active relationship with Him, relying on His strength rather than their own resources. This relationship must go beyond surface-level connection to deep dependence on God's power and provision.
3. God Uses Committed People
True commitment means staying faithful despite opposition, obstacles, and even opportunities to walk away. Like David facing Goliath, those God uses remain determined to honor Him regardless of circumstances or criticism.
4. God Uses Brave People
Courage is essential for those God uses, as demonstrated by David's willingness to risk his life for God's glory. As an anonymous quote states: "It is better to be courageous and unqualified than to be qualified without courage."
Standing Firm in Spiritual Battle
The story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:40-51) demonstrates how seemingly impossible victories come through complete reliance on God. David's confidence wasn't in his own abilities but in the Lord's power, declaring "I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied" (1 Samuel 17:45).
Victory isn't measured by worldly standards but by faithfulness to God's calling. Whether serving thousands or just a few, what matters is obedience to whatever God has assigned. True abundance comes not from circumstances but from being filled with Christ's Spirit and pursuing His purpose with passion.
Satan doesn't merely oppose church attendance or religious activity - he fights against authentic spiritual transformation. The key is developing genuine relationship with Jesus and allowing Him to work through our lives for His glory, regardless of the cost or consequences.
