In an era where truth has become relative and righteousness is increasingly redefined by culture, a pressing question emerges: How can we effectively share Jesus with a post-truth world? The answer lies not in debate, but in experiencing and demonstrating Christ's transformative love.
The Power of Experience and Proclamation
We are called to proclaim truth rather than debate it. As 1 John 4:19 teaches, "We love because he first loved us." This Greek construction indicates a direct cause and effect - our capacity to love others flows from first experiencing Christ's love ourselves. The more deeply we experience Jesus' love, the more naturally our lives will draw others to Him. The Holy Spirit does the convincing; we simply proclaim the truth.
Living in Light of Christ's Return
The first advent of Christ brought salvation through His virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection. But Scripture promises He will return. As recorded in Acts 1:9-10, Jesus ascended to heaven with the promise to return "in the same way you saw him go."
Before His crucifixion, Jesus assured His followers in John 14:1-3: "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's house. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."
This promise is reaffirmed in Revelation 22:20: "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!"
Three Key Responses
1. Looking for His Return
As Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:8, "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." Eager anticipation of Christ's return marks authentic believers.
2. Living Ready for His Return
1 John 3:3 instructs that "all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure." True devotion to Christ leads to conviction about sin - not merely avoiding it for circumstantial reasons, but resisting it out of love for our King.
3. Loving the Lost and Preaching the Gospel
Mark 16:15 commands, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to everybody." The most loving action we can take is sharing the joy of salvation through the Gospel message. While welcoming all, we must stand firm on Biblical truth rather than compromising to accommodate cultural preferences.
The Wedding Feast to Come
Drawing on ancient Jewish wedding customs, Christ has gone to prepare a place for His bride, the church. Just as a Jewish groom would return at his father's timing to collect his bride, Jesus will return at the Father's appointed time to gather His people.
As Revelation 19:9 declares, "Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." Christ will return as the faithful and true King of Kings and Lord of Lords, leading heaven's armies in white. For those who know Him, this promise produces both joyful anticipation and urgent motivation to share His love with others while there is still time.
