Gramster Rant: Five Reasons Christians Must Vote

With approximately 50% of evangelical Christians planning to sit out the upcoming election according to recent statistics, it's time to put on our big boy and big girl pants and fulfill our civic duty. While there may not be an explicit biblical mandate to vote, Scripture cumulatively creates a clear picture of our responsibility to engage fully as citizens, especially in a nation like ours.

  1. Religious Liberty: Our country was founded on the principle of sharing the gospel, with even our military established to defend borders and ensure the continued teaching of Christianity both domestically and globally. As Christians, we have a duty to preserve our First Amendment rights.
  2. Life Matters: Beyond just abortion, this encompasses policies affecting life and death decisions. When we're willing to harm society's most innocent and vulnerable, it opens the door to broader cultural violence - something we're witnessing now with increasing hostility toward Jews and Christians.
  3. Biblical Obedience: Romans 13:1 instructs us to be subject to governing authorities, recognizing they are appointed by God. In America, we the people ARE the government - our elected officials merely represent us. Opting out means surrendering influence to those who don't share biblical values.
  4. Reject "Neither Candidate" Excuses: No politician will perfectly align with all biblical beliefs. Vote for candidates most likely to support religious liberty and biblical values. Abstaining only increases chances of the more harmful option prevailing.
  5. Love Your Neighbor: Mark 12:31 commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Voting impacts policies affecting human trafficking victims, families, and communities - even people we may never meet. It's one tangible way to demonstrate love.

The Foundation of American Support for Israel

A critical lens for viewing this election is America's historic relationship with Israel. In 1948, President Truman, against most advisers' recommendations, supported Israel becoming a nation - fulfilling biblical prophecy of a nation born in a day. Since then, American support for Israel has been steadfast.

The key question now is whether God's timetable includes America finally turning its back on Israel. If so, chaos may follow. If not, we may have more time and freedom to share the gospel. America has been uniquely positioned to spread Christianity globally - this role shouldn't be surrendered lightly.

Right On or Way Off?

"He who is not satisfied with little is satisfied with nothing" - RIGHT ON This wisdom from Epicurus aligns with biblical teaching about contentment and faithfulness in small things.

"Contentment is natural wealth, luxury is artificial poverty" - RIGHT ON As Socrates observed, true wealth comes from contentment while pursuing luxury often leads to spiritual poverty. Even the finest earthly pleasures eventually feel empty without godly contentment.

"Jesus loved the people we hate" - WAY OFF This popular "He Gets Us" campaign message misses crucial theological truth. While God offers salvation to all, we're called to hate what He hates while loving righteously. Before salvation, we're enemies of God - He doesn't leave us in sin but transforms us through Christ.

The way forward is clear: pray fervently, vote biblical values, and trust God's sovereign plan regardless of outcomes. Our responsibility is faithful obedience, leaving the results to Him.
